Web Host Attenda Gains CarbonNeutral Accreditation

(WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — Managed hosting provider Attenda Limited (www.attenda.net) announced on Friday it has achieved CarbonNeutral company status, which replaces the CarbonNeutral office accreditation it received in January.

Awarded by The CarbonNeutral Company (www.carbonneutral.com), the accreditation demonstrates Attenda’s continued commitment to the “proactive management and effective control of the environmental impact of all of its business activities through significant investment in virtualization technologies,” says the company.

The company has made a series of moves to lower its carbon footprint, starting with the implementation of data centers that are energy efficient and environmentally responsible, with highly available, scalable, on demand cloud infrastructures.

First initiated in 2007, this virtualisation strategy has helped to significantly increase its server deployments over 800 servers during 2009, while maintaining the same level of power consumption as in the previous 12 months.

“Through the wider adoption of virtualization technologies, we have been able to become more energy efficient which has helped to control costs, whilst developing a highly flexible Cloud Computing platform from which we can rapidly scale to meet our clients’ changing business needs,” says Simon Hansford, VP service strategy at Attenda.

In August, the company launched the Attenda CarbonNeutral hosting program which lets customers measure and reduce the CO2 emissions that are produced by their infrastructure hosted within the Attenda data center environment to net zero.

The company also has a comprehensive recycling program in place, as well as energy efficient lighting.

Attenda says it encourages suppliers to reduce their carbon footprints and achieve CarbonNeutral status.

For the remaining carbon footprint that cannot be reduced through business and technology change, Attenda offsets through The CarbonNeutral Company to achieve a net zero CO2 emissions rating.
