(WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — ASP web hosting specialist ASPHostPortal (www.asphostportal.com) announced this week that it has launched a hosting package with support for Microsoft’s ASP.NET MVC 3.

The company, which says it specializes in hosting for projects based on Windows, Microsoft SQL Server, ASP.NET MVC, along with various other Microsoft products, launched the service this week, just a month after the release candidate for ASP.NET MVC 3 was issued by Microsoft.

Specialization in a certain development technology is one of the more common ways for a hosting provider to distinguish itself in a very commoditized market. ASPHostPortal has obviously intentionally narrowed its market to developers using Microsoft technologies.

One of the keys to focusing on a market based around a certain technology is quickly instituting support and expertise around new and emerging elements of that technology.

MVC 3 is the latest iteration of the Model View Controller programming framework for ASP.NET. According to Microsoft, the MVC framework offers programmers nimbleness and flexibility in building and maintaining applications. The modular nature enables developers to divide up tasks by role, and to, for instance, work on the appearance of an application without touching any of the core business logic.

In a November blog post introducing MVC 3 on the Microsoft developers website, Scott Guthrie describes in detail many of the improvements in the latest version of the MVC framework.

According to ASPHostPortal, its MVC 3 offerings are distinguished by their low cost, with many of the hosting services supporting the technology being of the more expensive variety. ASPHostPortal’s offerings start in the $5-per-month shared hosting range.

“We are really happy that we can support the latest Microsoft product, ASP.NET MVC 3,” said Dean Thomas, manager of ASPHostPortal, quoted in the company’s press release. “Now, you don’t need to spend a lot of money to get ASP.NET MVC 3 hosting.”

Among the other Microsoft technologies supported by ASPHostPorta are SQL 2008 R2, ASP.NET 4, Silverlight 4 + WCF RIA and others.
