Web Host Amen Pulls Print Ad

August 19, 2004 — (WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — According to a report by The Register, Web hosting provider Amen (amenworld.com), has pulled a controversial magazine advertisement after it received complaints from readers.

The ad pictured a semi-naked woman wearing a mask under the headline “BOUND TO SERVE.” Accompanying the picture of the woman was the phrase “Take control of your very own dedicated server 100% LINUX, 100% DEDICATED.”

According to the report, six complaints were made, saying the ad was offensive because it portrayed a woman in a “degrading and subservient posture.” Amen disagreed and confirmed that the model had given her consent to being depicted in such a manner. However, the company still decided to pull the ad.
