December 9, 2005 — (WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — Web hosting provider AIT (ait.com) announced on Wednesday that it would open a bricks and mortar retail store in Chicago that carries an expanded product line, including IP telephony, IT security and broadband connectivity. AIT’s Web hosting and e-commerce services can also be purchased at the storefront.
“This creates face-to-face interaction and a more personalized environment for the customer,” says Clarence Briggs, CEO of AIT. “It is conducive to clients getting a better understanding of the value technology brings to their businesses.”
IT consultants and AIT reseller veterans Ken Howard and Vernel King will operate the Chicago branch. AIT plans to open one or two retail stores per month next year in Atlanta, Los Angeles, South Florida, Raleigh and Charlotte, North Carolina, with each dealership being locally owned.
North Carolina-based AIT says it is investing about $5 million into the dealership and expects the creation of 75 jobs over the next two years. The company says the development of the storefront approach started in 2003 as the focus on the hosting customer evolved from tech-savvy individuals to more sales-oriented people.
