Fisher Plaza West Building in Seattle, where Adhost's third data center is located
(WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — Web hosting and colocation provider Adhost Internet (www.adhost.com) announced on Monday it has completed construction of its third data center in downtown Seattle.
The new Adhost West 2 data center is located adjacent to the company’s second data center, which opened in 2007.
Both are housed in Seattle’s Fisher Plaza, a Northwest telecommunications hub where other telecommunication and Internet companies are located including KOMO 4 Television, Fisher Radio, AT&T, AboveNet, Time Warner Telecom, MCI, and Verizon.
Built to meet or exceed N+1 standards for its critical systems, Fisher Plaza is well prepared for severe windstorms, earthquakes, and other natural disasters.
The downtown Seattle location removes any risk of flooding from local rivers or issues with the Howard Hanson Dam.
Adhost’s data centers are housed in secure buildings that exceed California seismic zone four standards.
The new data center was completed just in time for the upcoming stormy winter forecasted for western Washington.
“Businesses continue to seek secure data centers with redundant Internet connections, power and cooling for their servers storing critical, sensitive data,” says Will Riffle, Adhost president and CEO. “We’ve designed a redundant Seattle colocation facility to keep business servers running and online even during natural disasters and the worst winter storms.”
All of Adhost’s data centers undergo a SAS 70 Type II audit, where a third-party auditor examines the facility’s policies, procedures and businesses processes.
The data centers also meet security compliance requirements for Sarbanes-Oxley, HIPPA, and PCI DSS.
Adhost data centers feature louvers that wrap around the outside of the building to exchange air with the outside when it’s cold enough and reduce energy consumption.
Adhost’s electricity comes from Seattle City Light which is 88 percent hydro-electric power.
The data center features include 290 tons of N+1 cooling use external air exchange, 1250 KVA fully backed-up N+1 UPS power, perimeter and interior card key access system with 24-hour security monitoring, seismically braced cabinets with lockable front and back doors for added security, pressurized floor with up-flow air system, and carrier neutral with multiple Tier 1 GigE backbone providers.
Adhost’s Seattle data centers have 24-hour security surveillance by security guards and cameras.
All of Fisher Plaza is connected to eight multi-megawatt generators that can run at full capacity for weeks with emergency refueling, along with two emergency wells that can supply water to cooling towers if city water is unavailable.
