(WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — Web Africa (www.webafrica.co.za) is the first Internet service provider to move into world-class, vendor-neutral data centre Teraco (www.teraco.co.za), which is the first hosting facility of its kind in South Africa.
According to Web Africa’s announcement this week, Teraco’s vendor-neutral facility, since opening in February, has given ISPs the opportunity to significanty reduce their support loads, translating into greater business efficiency.
“Vendor-neutrality means that redundancy and reliability are greatly enhanced,” Web Africa managing director Matthew Tagg said in a statement. “Because Teraco hosts a number of carriers, we are not limited to a single provider should their network fail. This means guaranteed uptime and better performance for our customers.”
Vendor-neutrality also lets Web Africa pick and choose the type of services it needs from different providers. For instance, since it gathers different vendors under one roof, ISPs needn’t move to a new location in order to benefit from better pricing or service from a particular vendor.
Teraco also offers Web Africa power redundancy, cooling systems and the space to scale its operations, as well as heightened security, which Tagg said is a primary need. “There is comprehensive perimeter and building security, biometric verification, continuous camera surveillance and other stringent security measures to ensure that our data is well protected.”
In addition to helping maintain a high level of service as the company grows, Tagg said Web Africa is also helping vendor-neutrality grow in Africa. “We are delighted to be leading the charge to vendor-neutrality in the ISP space.”
