VMWare Signs More Than 21,000 New Customers

(WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — Virtualization technology developer VMware (www.vmware.com) announced on Thursday that more than 21,000 new customers have purchased VMware solutions in the first half of 2009, an average of 121 new customers per day.

The announcement follows the company’s recent news that its VMware Service Provider Program has seen significant growth in program enrollment with more than 700 service providers enrolled.

In particular, VMware vSphere 4 has seen significant success, having reached more than 350,000 downloads in the first 12 weeks of general availability. This figure translates to an average of 140 downloads per hour.

Offering a range of virtualization solutions from the desktop to the data center, VMWare’s 2008 revenues reached $1.9 billion, signing more than 150,000 customers and more than 22,000 partners.

The company recently acquired open-source Java framework provider SpringSource for $420 million.
