(WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — Virtualization and cloud infrastructure provider VMware announced on Wednesday that it has launched its VMware Solution Exchange, an online virtualization and cloud solutions marketplace. Customers, partners and developers can use the marketplace to help simplify the process of evaluating and selecting solutions through its self-service  portal. VMware also announced the general availability of the VMware vCenter Operations Management Suite.

The exchange offers partners and developers who integrate, interoperate or complement VMware’s product portfolio a one-stop location to market and sell their solutions. It allows customers to use search tools, explore multimedia content and engage with partners and developers.

VMware has a community of more than 2,000 technology partners who have built more than 3,500 applications and 6,000 infrastructure products compatible with VMware’s products.

The exchange allows partners and developers to feature solutions and supplement listings with content like YouTube videos, product overviews, downloadable trial software, and other marketing collateral. They will also be able to provide an overview of their solutions and VMware certification details.

The VMware Solution Excahnge allows customers to use a five-star rating system and provide written reviews of a solution.

According to the press release, the user interface shows featured and popular listings from VMware partners and developers on the home page, and solutions from partners and developers are categorized by technology type and industry type, as well as the VMware product which they are compatible with.

“With the VMware Solution Exchange, we are offering our robust partner network a new and centralized marketplace to promote their solutions and directly connect with customers to help expedite the sales process,” Parag Patel, vice president, Global Strategic Alliances, VMware said in a statement. “For customers, our goal is to empower them to quickly and easily find the resources they need to make purchasing decisions to accelerate their journey to the cloud, while also helping our technology partners deliver and manage joint solutions in a single, self-service location.”

The VMware vCenter Operations Management Suite helps customers deliver IT as a service by automating the operations of virtual and cloud environments.

Launched in October 2011, VMware’s new management portfolio embeds and integrates management into the platform, converging disciplines to streamline processes and applying analytics.

The suite has been updated to include a deeper integration of capacity and configuration management capabilities and application awareness so customers can optimize infrastructure operations based on application needs. It gives better visibility into key performance, health and efficiency indicators across operational and infrastructure environments.

“The highly dynamic nature of cloud infrastructure has outpaced traditional operations management disciplines, requiring customers to think differently about how to manage their virtual and cloud environments,” Rob Smoot, director, product marketing, enterprise management, VMware said in a statement. “The VMware vCenter Operations Management Suite provides customers with greater visibility ‘under the hood’ of their infrastructures, and it provides the actionable intelligence customers need to optimize efficiency, enable compliance and proactively manage service levels.”

The VMware vCenter Operations Management Suite is available in four editions to meet the needs of different customers, and list prices start at $50 per VM.
