(WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — Cloud computing provider VISI (www.visi.com) announced on Tuesday it has launched its new Virtual Dedicated Server product based on VMware’s (www.vmware.com) virtualization and management suite, VMware Infrastructure 3.
VISI’s VDS product was designed to provide greater security, reliability and performance than traditional hosting products, says the company.
The solution uses VMware’s High Availability feature to optimize the customer’s uptime by rebooting a virtual server on another physical web host in the event of hardware failure.
VMware’s Infrastructure 3 allows for greater control and flexibility by providing customers with their own operating system instance, where they can select the amount of CPU, memory and storage they need.
“Customers are increasingly looking to the web as the preferred channel to start and develop their business,” says Johnny Hatch, product manager at VISI. “As a result, there is a growing demand to seamlessly scale their web presence in a cost-effective manner while maintaining a highly available environment. VDS delivers on this by allowing customers to deploy a server environment with only those computing resources they need today and the capability to allocate additional resources as they grow.”
As a member of the VMware Service Provider Program, VISI is able to deliver knowledge and expertise to customers.
The program has seen a significant growth of more than 700 service providers enrolled, which VMware attributes to the program’s enhancements, the vCloud initiative, and the introduction of vSphere 4.
The company also has credentials as part of its VMware practice, including VMware Sales Professional, VMware Technical Sales Professional, and VMware Certified Professional.
VISI will be educating participants on cloud computing and promoting the new cloud platform at Cloud VISION 2009, a free seminar on cloud computing that will be held in Minneapolis, Minnesota on October 21, 2009.
