(WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — UK data center operator Virtus Data Centres (www.virtusdatacentres.com) announced on Friday it has completed the first phase of its new Tier III Enhanced Data Centre in Enfield, north London.
Construction started on the data center in June 2010, which once completed, will span 70,000 square foot.
Phase 1 of the Tier III Enhanced facility provides 8,632 square feet of net technical space.
The data center has self contained data halls available from 2,152 square feet delivering an average power density of 5,248 watts per square feet.
Built in two phases, the Enfield facility will feature mechanical TIA Tier III installation standards.
“All mechanical plant has N+1 redundancy while UPS and associated switchgear is provided in 2N configuration,” says David Watkins, operations director for Virtus. “Each phase includes the installation of all plant and ancillary equipment to supply the level of redundancy and resilience required whilst making provision for the future phase connections and commissioning. Each phase is constructed to ensure no interruptions to the existing infrastructure and data halls during the installation and commissioning of future phases. This is a highly resilient and commercially viable facility that has generated significant interest prior to go-live.”
The full Infrastructure Systems Test on one of Virtus’ data halls revealed a PUE of 1.428 at 100 percent load at an outside ambient temperature of 59 degrees Fahrenheit.
The company has pre-let 75 percent of phase 1, and will soon start construction on phase 2, bringing a further 18,066 square feet in Q4 2011.
