July 28, 2005 — (WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — Web hosting automation software developer SWsoft (sw-soft.com) announced on Wednesday that its server virtualization software Virtuozzo for the Linux platform now supports Intel Itanium-based servers.
The benefits of Intel Itanium servers, SWsoft says, include support for large addressable memory, faster floating-point calculations, and improved parallel processor performance.
The company says support for Intel Itanium servers is part of its 64-bit roadmap. In April, SWsoft announced Virtuozzo support for 64-bit AMD and Intel servers.
“Our support of the Itanium processor distinguishes Virtuozzo from other server virtualization technologies because we provide complete 64-bit support,” says Serguei Beloussov, CEO of SWsoft. “While hardware emulation companies only offer host-level support, Virtuozzo fully utilizes the computing power of 64-bit Itanium-based servers. As a result of our unique operating system level architecture, Virtuozzo provides near-zero overhead and class-leading scalability for production environments and is ideal for the most demanding 32 and 64-bit applications.”
Virtuozzo for Linux is now available for Itanium 2 processors. Each Virtuozzo VPS comes with quality of service guarantees.
