February 21, 2002 — (WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — SWsoft, Inc. (swsoft.com), a server and networking software
r

company, today announced testing results for Virtuozzo 2.1 (virtuozzo.com), that supports over 2000 instances of the Linux O/S on a low-end Dell 8450 PowerEdge server.
r

r

SWsoft is offering highly scalable virtualization technology for the open
r

source Linux OS that will enable enterprises to consolidate servers in the
r

data center and manage the proliferation of unconnected, underused servers.
r

r

Virtuozzo 2.1, available now for beta download, will officially be launched
r

in Q2 2002. New features include VZMC – a full GUI management tool, support
r

for up to 64GB physical memory, name-based hosting, security enhancements,
r

improved Service Level Management features such as advanced bandwidth
r

management, improved bandwidth accounting and smart migration of VEs.
r

Virtuozzo 2.1 features a new Web accelerator which uses the latest Linux
r

kernel features like zero-copy sendfile and TCP_CORK options.
r

r

“These test results show Virtuozzo improves the high-end performance of
r

Internet applications on Intel-based servers,” added Craig Oda, VP business
r

development, SWsoft. “In a down economy where cost savings are paramount,
r

issues such as server consolidation and increased performance of the data
r

center have never been so important. Virtuozzo is intelligent technology
r

that provides an affordable way to manage resources and information in the
r

data center and maximize hardware performance.”
r

r

Performance testing was conducted by the SWsoft development team, which
r

includes Alexey Kusnetsov, who maintains the networking code of the Linux
r

kernel. Virtuozzo achieved their results using the Dell 8450 PowerEdge
r

servers running RedHat Linux 7.2.
r

r

Virtuozzo is available now for purchase beginning at $250 (without
r

installation.) A complete solution of Dell 8450 hardware, software, OS, and
r

implementation that allows scaling to 2,000 Linux instances starts at
r

$25,000.
