Virgin Radio Selects TelecityRedbus
September 13, 2006 — (WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — Data center operator TelecityRedbus (telecityredbus.com) announced on Wednesday that it has been selected by the world’s most listened to online radio station Virgin Radio (virginradio.co.uk) to deliver data center and infrastructure hosting services.
TelecityRedbus will supply Virgin Radio with infrastructure services from its Manchester data center, installed complete with power feeds and supported 24 hours a day by engineers in a secure, carrier-independent data center environment. TelecityRedbus says this will guarantee that IP and telecom services will always be available to Virgin Radio.
“Virgin Radio’s decision to extend its business critical infrastructure to TelecityRedbus demonstrates that our suite of services continues to impress and convince new customers to partner with us,” says Mike Tobin, CEO of TelecityRedbus. “TelecityRedbus is helping to extend the reach of traditional broadcasting and is increasingly at the heart of networked and streamed broadcast services. Growing numbers of broadcast organizations, including the BBC, recognize the value of choosing our data center services for their infrastructure hosting needs.”
Online radio stations are enjoying an upsurge in popularity according to figures released by radio audience measurement body, Rajar, which also suggests that more than half of the UK adult population is now listening to radio using one of the available digital platforms. The percentage of those listening via the Internet also increased to 20.8 percent from 17.3 percent during the first three months of 2006.
TelecityRedbus recently announced that it has completed its $62 million acquisition of Globix’s UK subsidiary.
