VineyardHosting Limits Eternal Hosting

December 1, 2008 — (WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — Shared web hosting provider VineyardHosting.net (www.vineyardhosting.net) has made changes to its once-for-all set-up fee with no monthly fees, “eternal hosting” packages, capping them at 10 years.

According to the company’s announcement late last week, Windows and Linux-based hosting provider VineyardHosting.net has previously offered one-time-fee hosting packages with no time-limit, however, while the recent changes put specific time limits on the eternal packages for new customers, the change does not affect previous accounts which will continue to remain indefinitely.

In November, shared hosting provider 2ip (www.2ip.com) introduced a one-size-fits-all, “Pay to Own” hosting plan, which lets customers pay a one-time $25 web hosting fee without any recurring subscription costs for 100 megabytes of disk space, and unlimited data transfer and email accounts.

VineyardHosting.net differs from 2ip’s plan because it offers a range of hosting options and features. Repackaging monthly packages from web hosting provider Aplus.net (www.aplus.net), VineyardHosting resells Aplus.net’s $5.95 per month “Unix Personal Hosting” for a one-time 10 year fee of $300 (or $2.50 per month). Its high-end Windows package, which includes 250GB of space and 2500GB monthly data transfer is available on a 10 year term for $1,800.
