October 7, 2003 -- (WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) -- VIA NET.WORKS, Inc. (vianetworks.com), a provider of solutions to small and medium-sized businesses, announced Monday the appointments of Karen Slatford and Jan Gesmar-Larsen to its board of directors. In conjunction with the appointments, the company also announced that Stephen J. Eley was stepping down from the board after serving for over four years.

The company said the appointment of two European-based executives is meant to complement the company?s European focus.

"We are delighted to welcome Karen and Jan to the board. Their appointment will broaden and deepen both the operational experience and the European focus of the board at this key point in VIA's history," said Mike McTighe, chairman of VIA's board. "At the same time, I extend a great debt of thanks on behalf of the board to Stephen Eley, who has helped steer the company through challenging times and set it on course for a promising future."

Slatford held various senior management positions at Hewlett-Packard?s (hp.com) UK operations for nearly two decades, leaving the company in 2001.

Gesmar-Larsen has held senior executive positions in the personal computer industry at Compaq, Apple (apple.com) and Dell (dell.com). He most recently served as president of Dell Computer, Europe and Middle East and Africa (EMEA).
