August 12, 2002 — (WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — Managed Internet service provider VIA NET.WORKS (VIANETWORKS.com) announced on Friday that it has appointed telecommunications industry veteran Michael McTighe to its Board of Directors.

VIA says McTighe has spent 26 years in the telecommunications and technology sector, most recently as CEO of Carrier1, and executive director and chief executive of global operations for Cable & Wireless.

“Mike’s significant experience in the international telecommunications field and his strategic roles in business development and corporate restructuring are a significant addition to the board. He brings to VIA in-depth knowledge and background of the European telecommunications and Internet markets,” says Steve Halstedt, chairman of the board of VIA. “We look forward to his strategic and operational input as we continue the turnaround of the company.”

The company also said that acting CEP Karl Maier will continue in his roll as acting CEO while the company continues to search for a permanent CEO.
