Via Net.Works Appoints New CEO

October 31, 2002 — (WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — Managed Internet service provider VIA NET.WORKS Inc. (VIANETWORKS.com) announced on Wednesday that it has appointed telecommunications industry veteran Rhett S. Williams as its new chief executive officer and a member of its board of directors.

Via says the 46-year-old Williams has held senior positions with telecommunications and technology companies in both the United States and Europe, most recently serving as executive vice president and chief marketing officer of European data carrier KPNQwest. Prior to that, Williams served as senior vice president for Corporate Accounts at KPN Telecom.

“Since beginning this search earlier in the year we have undertaken a very deliberative and careful process to ensure we selected just the right person to lead VIA into the next phase of its development,” says Michael McTighe, VIA?s chairman of the board. “Rhett’s significant international experience in the telecommunications and technology markets, his deep understanding of our core European market, and his attested leadership and management skills combine to provide the optimum capability set to take VIA forward from here.”

Williams will start with VIA on November 1, assuming the chief executive role on November 18, allowing a smooth transition with Karl Maier, the company?s acting chief executive since January, 2002. After relinquishing the CEO role, Maier will continue as VIA?s president and chief operating officer.
