(WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — Promising to bring the power of web 2.0 to large corporations, Verizon Business (www.verizonbusiness.com) has officially launched a new web interface enabling Verizon Managed Hosting customers to quickly and securely change online content.
Available immediately in the US and Europe, according the the Wednesday announcement, the new Application Management Service lets enterprises directly manage their online content, intranets, extranets and blogs. The new service takes away the need for highly technical skills or dependency on the IT department to update content. It gives uses a preview of the webpages exactly as they will appear online, and when they are ready, they can simply “drag and drop” to publish them.
Based on Alterian’s (www.alterian.com) Content Management Enterprise Edition, a leading software platform for integrated marketing solutions, Verizon’s Application Management Service even allows users to edit content using familiar programs like Microsoft Word.
“Verizon Business is witnessing a sea change in how businesses and their employees are embracing the Internet as a medium for rich interaction,” Verizon global business products senior vice president Nancy Gofus said in a statement.
“Today’s corporate users depend on up-to-date content and social networking sites to work smarter and collaborate more effectively. Verizon Business’ new solution addresses that need, providing today’s web 2.0 workforce with the tools necessary to maintain a competitive edge,” said Gofus.

The new offering, according to Verizon Business, helps companies boost creativity, facilitate secure information sharing and collaboration, and deliver information in real time. The flexible interface also can accommodate the addition of new users and technologies, allowing the company’s website to grow along with the company.
This new service has even been deployed by the government of Wales, responsible for the UK nation’s 3 million population. The Welsh Assembly Government (new.wales.gov.uk) is using the new Application Management Service to dynamically update its external website, including information on the economy, health, education and local government.
The new Application Management Service is hosted in a secure, reliable environment to provide a highly available service, offering peace of mind for customers, and includes support for monitoring, maintenance, security, and backup and restore services.
“In taking advantage of the Application Management Service, we can very reliably deliver the most up-to-date information so our citizens can be well informed about Assembly Government initiatives, as well as provide the platform to develop online citizen engagement,” Welsh Assembly Government head of e-communications Stuart Fitzgerald said in a statement. “This will greatly improve the way in which the Assembly Government can use e-communications in its day-to-day business.”
