January 8, 2002 — (WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — Further automating its disaster recovery solution, Veritas Software Corporation (veritas.com) today announced it has completed the acquisition of The Kernel Group Incorporated (tkg.com), a privately held software company based in Austin, Texas, for an undisclosed amount. TKG is the developer of Bare Metal Restore, a solution designed to fully automate system recovery of Windows and all major UNIX platforms in the event of data corruption or hardware failure.
r
r
Research firm Meta Group estimates that just 36 hours of downtime could cost
r
a typical financial services firm up to $567 million in direct revenue
r
losses. Bare Metal Restore automates and accelerates the full system
r
recovery capabilities of Veritas NetBackup, and delivers a common,
r
enterprise-wide recovery solution to minimize downtime. This eliminates the
r
need for personnel to reconfigure disk hardware and reinstall the operating
r
system, tasks which could lengthen outages and increase the possibility of
r
user error.
r
r
“Bare Metal Restore is an important component of a total disaster recovery
r
solution that includes backup and recovery, clustering and replication
r
management,” said Kris Hagerman, senior vice president, strategic
r
operations, Veritas Software. “Leveraging TKG’s leading software products
r
and proven engineering talent, Veritas Software will further integrate this
r
advanced technology with its storage management software to satisfy the
r
rapidly maturing disaster recovery requirements of our enterprise
r
customers.”
