Verio Signs Carrier Reseller in Philippines

Small-business hosting firm Verio (www.verio.com) announced on Tuesday that it had signed a reseller agreement ePLDT (www.epldt.com), a subsidiary of the Philippine Long Distance Telephone Company, making that firm a distributor of Verio’s hosting solutions.

The announcement notably touches both of the major premises put forth by Verio in March at its viaVerio partner conference: its goal of becoming almost 100 percent devoted to the reseller channel by he end of 2009; and an increased focus on becoming a global business.

According to the new agreement, ePLDT will offer Verio’s hosting services to its customers in the Philippines and nearby regions. The hosting products will be offered as stand-alone solutions and bundled with the company’s DSL Internet services.

Verio says there are currently more than 500,000 small businesses in the Philippines, and “that number is expected to grow significantly over the next several years.”

ePLDT is the latest addition to a list of national telecommunications carriers currently participating in Verio’s partner program, located in fourteen different countries. Verio says the partner program offers telcos a way to expand their reach into new markets without adding infrastructure or new responsibilities.

“ePLDT required a hosting solution that would support their current infrastructure and would deliver the reliability that their customers have come to expect,” said Peter Von der Linde, senior director of OEM sales for Verio. “We are honored they have selected Verio after an extensive evaluation process and believe this partnership further solidifies our position as the global leader in outsourced hosting services, while also adding another telecommunications provider to our impressive list of OEM partners.”

Verio has been working specifically to enhance its visibility as a provider focused on the SMB market recently, issuing the results of a study earlier this week, and launching an online resource for small businesses earlier this month.
