(WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — Managed hosting provider Verio (www.verio.com) announced on Monday it has conducted a new study on behalf of its customers which shows that the needs of SMBs are quickly evolving from the simple “business card” site to increasingly interactive and dynamic content sites.
Verio conducted research and developed seven profiles of Web users, outlining their evolving needs from simple business card sites to complex websites that require complete user control.
Throughout the process, the study also identified Web hosting trends and what SMBs should look for when selecting a hosting provider.
The research found that customers are moving towards more sophisticated websites, have shown increased awareness and requests for SEO and SEM, are increasingly using more prebuilt tools and adding depth to websites and are more willing to spend time on site analytics and analysis of traffic.
The study also follows an earlier survey conducted by Economist Intelligence Unit on behalf of Verio, which showed that SMBs may be the most optimistic group of businesses in America.
Since small businesses comprise a large part of Verio’s customer base, it is in Verio’s best interest to conduct research on the online patterns of SMBs.
By sponsoring and conducting these kinds of studies, Verio can provide relevant information for its existing core customers made up of small businesses and potentially attract new customers.
In May, Verio launched Websites.com, an online community designed to help small businesses expand their online presence.
The site provides resources and sharing best practices for website planning, building, hosting and marketing designed for the SMB.
