Verio Attracts Resellers with Free Month of VPS Hosting: Companies looking to boost revenues are finding Verio's Free VPS promotion the right fit for getting started as Hosting Reseller.

September 16, 2003 -- (WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) -- VeriSign (verisign.com) announced yesterday the implementation of its Site Finder service to the .com and .net top-level domain zones.

The company said Site Finder is designed to help users reach their Internet destinations when URLs are mistyped or spelled incorrectly. According to reports published by the Associated Press, critics complain that the Site Finder service gives a private company too much control over online commerce and lets it profit from an essential monopoly over ".com" and ".net" names.

When a user enters a non?existent domain name ending in the .com or .net top-level domain, particularly in cases of misspellings, users are redirected to sitefinder.verisign.com, which displays a Web page that includes links to possible intended destinations and search tools in place of the customary error page most browsers display.

Ben Turner, VeriSign's vice-president for naming services, described the service as a way to "improve overall usability of the Internet," according to the Associated Press. In a single day, .com and .net domains are mistyped approximately 20 million times.
