VeriSign Expands Managed DNS Services

By theWHIR.com , August 26, 2002

August 26, 2002 -- (WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) -- Digital trust service provider VeriSign (VeriSign.com) announced on Monday that it has expanded its managed DNS services to allow busineses to increase performance and streamline the management of the DNS infrastructure that supports their email, e-commerce or other Web applications.

The expanded services, says VeriSign, include levels of support designed to fit the needs of any business or service provider. Those support levels include an outsourced solution, an in-house solution and a hybrid solution.

Among the VeriSign DNS services are DNS hosting; DNS High-Availability; and DNS and IP Enterprise, which offers software and appliance solutions for in-house DNS and IP address management.

VeriSign says that as the registry for more than 27 million domains through .com, .net and .org, the company is uniquely qualified to provide DNS care and management for critical online operations including Web sites, e-commerce and email communications. VerSign says it currently handles more than 7 billion lookups per day, and that its Advanced Transaction Look-up And Signaling system (ATLAS) will scale those operations to accommodate 100 billion DNS look-ups per day within a fraction of a second.

"DNS data is vitally important to the stability of the Internet, but its complexity and uniqueness cause most to be run at less than optimal levels," said Adam Zimmerman, vice president, VeriSign Global Registry Services. "VeriSign has tailored its suite of Managed DNS Services to fit the needs of any business or service provider to ensure that Internet operations critical to their success stay up and running. In fact, in a recent survey, VeriSign's DNS Hosting customers reported a 94 percent satisfaction rate, with ease of use and the ability to make quick, reliable, accurate DNS updates cited as the service's key benefits."

October 2009 - Web Hosting's All Star Team
This has been, for us, one of the most interesting, exciting and challenging build-ups to an issue of the magazine yet, Web Hosting's All Star Team. The balloting process was our first experiment with a kind of user participation we're planning to do a lot more with in the months to come. We had thousands of ballots submitted, with hundreds of write-in suggestions and a demonstration of user engagement that has us feeling super positive about the project.

July 2009 - What am I Worth?
One of the interesting luxuries of working on a project like the printed WHIR magazine is that it allows us to play with things like our point of view from one issue to the next. In recent months we've been giving added attention to the kind of practical and applicable advice aimed at smaller hosts and resellers. This issue carries on with that point of view, asking, in our cover story, "what am I worth?" It's a complicated question without a clear-cut answer.

May 2009 - The Blueprint for a Small Web Host
I was a little surprised by how difficult it became to see this idea through. We set out to assemble a blueprint for a small hosting business, but butted up pretty quickly against the general impossibility of covering all the territory that was out there to be covered. The basic constraints of a printed magazine, and the less-than-infinite amount of time we had available forced us to face the fact that we could never produce an exhaustive guide to starting a hosting company.
