VeriSign Speeds Up Domain Updates
Verio Attracts Resellers with Free Month of VPS Hosting: Companies looking to boost revenues are finding Verio's Free VPS promotion the right fit for getting started as Hosting Reseller.
July 12, 2004 -- (WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) -- VeriSign (verisign.com) said last Friday that it plans to speed up the way its .com and .net registries handle updates, allowing users to change the addresses their domains point to in near-real time. Typically, users must wait several hours, often up to 24 hours, for their DNS to propagate. The changes being made by VeriSign would reduce that time to merely minutes, bringing it in line with the .info and .biz domains, which have updated in near real-time since being launched.
Reports say users who are switching Web hosting providers or looking to get Web sites set up quickly will benefit from the changes. Spammers, who need to move their Web sites to new domains on short notice, have taken advantage of the faster DNS updates of domains like .biz.
"The biggest benefit is not having to wait potentially up to 18 hours for changes made by a registrar to be reflected," VeriSign said on its Web site. "If a critical change to a domain is required, that change will now be visible in DNS nearly immediately."
The change goes into effect on September 8.
