VeriSign Expands Managed Security Services

By theWHIR.com , May 07, 2002

May 7, 2002 -- (WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) -- Digital trust services provider VeriSign Inc. (VeriSign.com) announced on Tuesday that it has expanded its portfolio of managed security services in an effort to help business with the entire process of designing, implementing, monitoring and managing e-business networks.

VeriSign says it currently serves more than 4,000 enterprise customers with its traditional managed services for public key infrastructure (PKI), secure socket layer (SSL) and domain name systems (DNS). The company is introducing a broad range of service for other critical security implementations.

Included in the expanded offering are the company?s managed virtual private network (VPN) and firewall services, designed to provide end-to-end management of secure encrypted site-to-site and remote access IPSec VPN solutions; managed intrusion detection and content vulnerability scanning services, which continuously monitor network traffic and set off alerts when a potential attack is recognized; and managed virus scanning services, which identify virus infiltration in real-time based on an up-to-date database of virus signatures.

VeriSign says its expanded security services portfolio integrates solutions from a list of respected providers, including ActivCard, Aprisma Management Technologies, Check Point Software Technologies, Enterasys Networks Inc., netForensics Inc. and Nokia. VeriSign also offers managed correlation, which uses security monitoring services from Counterpane Internet Security Inc. to aggregate and analyze security events across applications and multiple devices. This allows VeriSign to design and implement defense strategies to work on multiple levels across a company?s infrastructure.

"Customers are constantly telling us that they want to alleviate the financial and logistical pain of managing their security infrastructure," says Anil Pereira, executive vice president and general manager of VeriSign's enterprise and service provider division. "This new flexible portfolio of managed services is designed to meet customer security requirements on every level. Customers can manage their own security infrastructure with our guidance, or we can handle everything from design and implementation to monitoring and management. It's all up to the customer."

October 2009 - Web Hosting's All Star Team
This has been, for us, one of the most interesting, exciting and challenging build-ups to an issue of the magazine yet, Web Hosting's All Star Team. The balloting process was our first experiment with a kind of user participation we're planning to do a lot more with in the months to come. We had thousands of ballots submitted, with hundreds of write-in suggestions and a demonstration of user engagement that has us feeling super positive about the project.

July 2009 - What am I Worth?
One of the interesting luxuries of working on a project like the printed WHIR magazine is that it allows us to play with things like our point of view from one issue to the next. In recent months we've been giving added attention to the kind of practical and applicable advice aimed at smaller hosts and resellers. This issue carries on with that point of view, asking, in our cover story, "what am I worth?" It's a complicated question without a clear-cut answer.

May 2009 - The Blueprint for a Small Web Host
I was a little surprised by how difficult it became to see this idea through. We set out to assemble a blueprint for a small hosting business, but butted up pretty quickly against the general impossibility of covering all the territory that was out there to be covered. The basic constraints of a printed magazine, and the less-than-infinite amount of time we had available forced us to face the fact that we could never produce an exhaustive guide to starting a hosting company.
