(WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — Data center research The Uptime Institute (www.uptimeinstitute.org) announced last week it has named the corporations on its Global Green 100 list, which highlights the significant energy efficiency achievements of global corporations operating major data centers.
According to the press release, the ecologically friendly corporations include FORTUNE 500 and InformationWeek 500 organizations that demonstrate “board-level policy and governance commitment to increasing energy efficiency and reducing the carbon footprint of their enterprise IT and data center operations.”
These corporations have the largest investment enterprise IT and have lead the industry in making significant improvements in energy efficiency and green-house gas reduction.
The official naming of the Global Green 100 will take place during the April 15th Green Enterprise IT Awards ceremony, which is part of the 4th Annual Institute Research Symposium: LEAN, CLEAN, and GREEN (www.GreenITNYC.com), held in New York City from April 13 to 16.
The Uptime Institute advises owners and operators of enterprise data centers on the technical and business issues of computing reliability, sustainability and energy efficiency.
The organization conducts research that highlights the need for immediate improvements in corporate data center management and design.
“In an era of increasing energy scarcity and escalating costs, corporations cannot afford to ignore these losses,” says Kenneth G. Brill, executive director of the Institute. “The companies included in the Global Green 100 have showed an exemplary commitment to improving their data center operations, not only reducing their carbon footprints, but also realizing significant financial savings.”
The Uptime Institute’s Global Green 100 includes AOL, Apple, AT&T, BT Group, Cisco Systems, Dell, EMC, Emerson Electric, Google, Microsoft, NetApp, Oracle, PG&E, Qwest, Sun, and SunGard Data Systems.

Brill recently received the “Outstanding Contribution to Industry” award, which recognizes an individual’s lifetime achievement, at the Data Centre Leaders’ Awards.
