(WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — UK hosting provider The SharePoint Initiative (www.sharepointinitiative.com) announced on Monday it is currently offering SharePoint 2010 hosting, which allows customers to store their data in the UK under stringent UK data protection laws.
The press release describes the company as “currently the only provider of UK based SharePoint 2010 Hosting.”
A Google search leads to results for at least two other UK-based SharePoint 2010 providers, including ICS Solutions (www.ics-solutions.co.uk) and Outsourcery (www.outsourcery.co.uk). However the SharePoint Initiative has since clarified that the distinguishing feature of its SharePoint 2010 offering is the distinction that its services are delivered from shared hardware, rather than on dedicated machines.
Launched in North America last May, SharePoint 2010 has become a popular offering among hosting providers.
The hosted service has not fully caught on in Europe, as hosting SharePoint requires more time and effort, as well as higher costs for licensing and server space.
The company offers hosted SharePoint with Rackspace managed hosting from $12.17 per user per month.
All plans include 1GB of storage, unlimited (fair use) bandwidth, a near 100 percent uptime service level agreement and full Microsoft certified support.
“There are huge numbers of businesses reviewing the idea of hosting and unless they are a large organization the chance to host SharePoint 2010 in the UK has not been there,” says The Directors at The SharePoint Initiative. “It’s not just the storage of data but also the level of support provided. We have been involved in SharePoint consulting and support for over 18 months now and felt we should address this ridiculous delay being forced upon UK based companies.”
