(WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) – UK Web hosting provider Network EQ (www.networkeq.co.uk) announced on Tuesday that it has completed migration of its customer and internal virtual servers to Citrix XenServer VPS platform.

According to the press release, the company implemented the migration to improve performance and reliability of its servers and support the increasing number of clients interested in virtualization.

“The updated VPS platform means that we can now service almost all of our clients’ hosting requirements using a virtualized solution, which is a great result for the business as it allows us to deliver high-performance, highly available solutions to the customer much faster than we could by deploying physical servers. The additional capacity will allow us to continue growing and expanding our customer-base throughout 2011,” Ben Organ, Network EQ’s managing director said in a statement.

The company selected HP BL460c G7 blade servers powered by Intel Xeon L5640 CPUs with DDR3 RAM.

As part of the migration, Network EQ upgraded to version 5.6 of Citrix XenServer. Network EQ says the new XenServer platform gives it double the computing power compared to its old servers, as well as saves more than 50 percent of server power consumption.

“To be able to save over 4,400kWh a year of energy whilst giving our existing customers server upgrades with no additional monthly cost is a demonstration of our commitment to keep investing in the right technology,” Gavin Thirlwall, Network EQ’s technical director stated. “We are already working on further upgrades that will be announced later in 2011.”
