(WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — UK domain registrar and web hosting provider Namesco (names.co.uk) announced on Tuesday it has acquired UK dedicated hosting provider Poundhost (www.poundhost.com).
This is the first major acquisition for Namesco since May 2008, when it acquired Ireland’s largest web hosting provider Register365 through its subsidiary, Namesco Ireland.
According to the press release, Namesco is currently the fourth largest domain name and hosting provider within the UK.
Namesco is a subsidiary of Italian Internet and mobile services firm Dada SPA. The company will own 100 percent of the capital of the companies composing Poundhost, including Poundhost Internet, Server Arcade, VPS and Blueconnex.
Poundhost has over 10,000 dedicated and virtual servers and a large high-end customer base, 30 percent of which resides in the US.
The company is considered one of the main players in the UK for dedicated hosting services, says Namesco.
The acquisition of Poundhost is consistent with the Dada group strategy, which strives to “consolidate its leadership in the European market and to strengthen the position of the group in the management of online identity and presence of innovative Web advertising solutions,” says the company.
Dada.pro has already consolidated presence in terms of customers managed in the UK, showing high growth rates of digital services and online advertising.
“The acquisition of Poundhost completes the offer of the Group’s digital services from domain to click and opens up the potential of the US market,” says Paolo Barberis, chairman and founder of Dada. “The further expansion of the customer base accelerates the development of Simply, the new Dada online advertising project, in the UK market in which internet advertising has already overtaken television.”
