UK Group Discusses Energy Concerns

September 7, 2006 — (WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — IT event organizer DatacenterDynamics (datacenterdynamics.com) announced on Wednesday that The UK Datacentre Networking Group will convene to address energy concerns and examine methods for increasing power efficiency and reducing cost.

Picking up on themes discussed at its May meeting, the UK Datacentre Networking Group’s Q3 meeting will address methods of auditing computer room energy usage, as well as examining various ways that power consumption can be reduced in both the short and long term.

Speakers will include Mick Dalton, the global operations director of Global Switch and chair of the British Institute for Facilities Management, Francis Rottenberg from Carbon Trust, Tim Smith from Energyfactor and Arun Shenoy from Intel.

“Every data center operator knows that increasing energy costs are impacting profitability, but if you add to that the fragility of the UK’s power resources, it makes more than economic sense to address power efficiency,” says George Rockett, director of the UK Datacentre Networking Group. “The expedients for taking a long hard look at the way this sector uses power are manifold. We urgently need to start looking for ways to increase power efficiency for economic and ecological reasons. The UK Datacentre Networking Group is delighted to be able to stage an event supported by influential organizations like Intel and Carbon Trust.”
