(WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — The data center market in Manchester is growing, and two separate announcements from UK colocation providers have confirmed this increased demand. Network solutions and connectivity provider SSE Telecoms (www.ssetelecoms.com) announced on Tuesday that it will provide connectivity to TelecityGroup’s (www.telecitygroup.com) Manchester 3 facility when it opens later this year. Colocation firm UK Grid (www.ukgrid.net) announced on Monday that it has expanded its Manchester One data center.

According to TelecityGroup’s press release, SSE Telecoms chose Manchester for its network expansion because of the city’s growth as a primary business hub as well as its northwest location. SSE Telecoms says these factors enable it to offer network solutions to Scotland, London, around the UK as well as other international locations.

“Manchester is seeing an influx of corporate and content-rich media companies, resulting in a surge in data traffic which requires suitable bandwidth,” Neil Hutchings, managing director at SSE Telecoms said in a statement. “TelecityGroup recognized the requirement for enterprise-grade data center capacity in Manchester to serve these customers, and it was a natural decision for SSE Telecoms to extend our network into the facility from launch. We expect a lot of companies to utilize TelecityGroup’s expertise in its new Manchester facility, and with this partnership we can provide them with an added range of network services.”

TelecityGroup’s new data center will open later in 2011, according to the press release. This partnership will enable its customers to have access to high-bandwidth and dark fiber services.

“With a network encompassing over 122 PoPs across the UK, the presence of SSE Telecoms in our new Manchester facility, along with other premium carriers and network providers, will mean we can provide exceptional connectivity options for our customers from launch,” Adriaan Oosthoek, country manager for UK and Ireland, TelecityGroup stated. “The demand for premium, enterprise-grade outsourced IT services in Manchester is clear; our partnership with SSE Telecoms will enable Manchester’s dynamic business community to achieve greater efficiencies and cost-savings through the effective hosting, management and day-to-day running of their IT.”

On Monday, colocation provider UK Grid completed the expansion of its Manchester One facility at Synergy House on Manchester Science Park. UK Grid recently announced plans to build a London data center.

According to the company, the project added 6,000 square feet of colocation space to house 300 server racks in two data halls.

UK Grid says the total power availability at the site is now 4MW. The new data halls have a target PUE of 1.32, according to the press release.

“This expansion project ensures that we can continue to accommodate the high levels of demand we’re seeing for high quality data center space in the North until our new Parkway 2 data center comes online in Q4 2011,” Matt Edgley, UK Grid sales manager said in a statement. “In Synergy House we offer a data center that’s truly fit for business, carrying ISO27001, ISO14001 and ISO9001 accreditations. The colocation facility has also been rubber stamped as being compliant with the EU Code of Conduct for Data Centres, so any organization considering UK Grid can be sure we’re doing the right things in the right way.”

On Monday, web host Computacenter announced plans to expand its Romford, UK data center, 30 minutes outside of London.
