tyBit Launches Ad Server Appliance

(WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — After months of researching advertising publishers’ needs, search engine provider tyBit (www.tyBit.com) has launched what it deems the industry’s first affordable ad server appliance, allowing publishers to serve relevant Pay-Per-Click advertising, as well as banner and text ads on their websites, while retaining complete control.

According to web hosting provider and tyBit’s sister company AIT (www.ait.com), the tyBit Ad Server is the quintessential ad delivery server appliance, drawing on AIT’s patented ad serving platform, which is the product of 14 years of web hosting experience. Offering easy installation and maintenance, the server appliance format provides a specialized server and hardware bundle with pre-installed applications, designed so the end user does not need to understand the details of the operating system, software or associated commands.

“There are server appliances for spam, firewalls, search and security, however, this is the first time anyone has put an ad serving platform in a box for clients,” tyBit chief executive officer Clarence Briggs said in a statement. “If the content of a publisher’s website changes, the appliance automatically adjusts and serves IAB compliant ads that are relevant to that content into zones created by the publisher.”

The Ad Server Appliance runs tyBit’s Ad Parity software on Linux and the Apache web server. For installation, it is simply plugged into an existing network and turned on by the end user, who then selects the options to be active using a simple user interface. The appliance then boots to an active state, which is usable within minutes.

Briggs said all the other solutions on the market require publishers to sign up with a search engine or ad network that in turn serve ads across their websites, cutting into the publishers’ revenues. The tyBit Ad Server Appliance, he said, is more of a monetization tool rather than just a piece of hardware, letting publishers sell directly to advertisers and manage their campaigns or allow the advertiser to manage their own campaign.

There are three server appliances available, starting at $5,000, however, there are leasing options starting at $300 per month.

As newspapers increasingly fear the threat of diminishing conventional ad revenues, tyBit is currently working with the National Newspaper Association to make the new appliance available to its members.
