(WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — Two “green” web hosting firms based in Portland, Oregon became one at the end of 2010, with the acquisition of Taproot Hosting by Canvas Dreams (www.canvasdreams.com), according to a post on the Sustainable Business Oregon website.

Financial details of the deal, announced on December 30, were not revealed.

According to the report, the deal increases the client roster of Canvas Dreams by 50 percent and its revenue by about 25 percent, as a result of the acquisition.

Judging by the appearance of Canvas Dreams’ website, “sustainable web hosting” is the company’s primary focus. It promotes the fact that it uses 100 percent local wind energy, and that it received a “Green Business Leader Award” in 2010.

The companies say that, prior to the acquisition, they had been exploring ways they could cooperate. The discussions ultimately led to the deal at the end of the year.

“We have built our business and reputation on a simple philosophy of doing what is right for our customers, our community, and the environment,” said David Anderson, principal at Canvas Dreams, quoted in the announcement. “In a competitive market, it’s not very common for like-minded companies to join forces, but when they do, it creates enormous potential to bring positive change. Everyone at Canvas Dreams is excited to honor Taproot’s legacy and work, as our own story continues evolving.”

Anderson says Canvas Dreams intends to leverage the new resources of the combined organizations to launch some new services in 2011.
