(WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — Information security and compliance solutions provider Trustwave announced on Tuesday that it has launched its new two-factor authentication solution MyIdentity.

According to Trustwave, MyIdentity provides five authentication options to help users connect to various network systems and applications.

This announcement comes two months after Trustwave named a new chief marketing officer.

According to the press release, authentication is important for organizations to secure any resource available on a public network to help proprietary information safe. Two-factor authentication includes an additional layer of security that uses two components to verify a user’s identity when accessing a network from a remote location.

Trustwave Myidentity is a cloud-based two-factor authentication solution that combines self-service enrollment with a broad array of authentication methods, according to Trustwave.

Trustwave says it can support network or application authentication from the corporate desktop, employee laptops, remote locations and mobile smartphones.

“In addition to meeting compliance mandates and providing a more secure user experience, two-factor authentication is also essential to combat the evolving threat landscape and prevent unforeseen attacks,” Brian Trzupek, vice president of managed identity and SSL at Trustwave said in a statement. “MyIdentity helps organizations mitigate risk, simplify manageability, and lower costs as compared to token-based solutions.”

To use MyIdentity, a user must log into their network with their existing user name and password. The MyIdentity screen provides users with five different authentication options and users determine which option to deploy.

Users can choose between the following authentication options: digital certificates, SMS-based authenticator codes, voice call-back, MyIdentity push with confirmation screen or MyIdentity Mobile.

When the authentication mechanism is selected, users’ identities are verified and access to the network is granted, according to Trustwave.

Trustwave says that the variety ensures that users can make choices at the point of authentication without cumbersome administration.

According to the press release, MyIdentity is delivered at a fraction of the cost of current alternatives because it does not incorporate physical tokens.

After the high profile DigiNotar hack earlier this year, it is clear that security service providers are developing new products to ensure the online safety of their customers. Recently, certificate authority GeoTrust launched its new Web Site Anti-Malware Scan service that identifies malware to protect website owners and visitors.
