(WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — On-demand data security and payment card industry compliance management solutions provider Trustwave (www.trustwave.com) has acquired Mirage Networks (www.miragenetworks.com), a provider of full-cycle Network Access Control technology, commonly used to prevent devices from entering a network that could introduce viruses and malware.
According to Trustwave’s Tuesday announcement, Mirage Networks’ NAC technology will be part of Trustwave’s managed security services, which include UTM, IDS/IPS, secure e-mail, network security monitoring, vulnerability scanning and log monitoring.
“Mirage Networks’ NAC technology and expertise in endpoint compliance and behavioral policy enforcement will complement our current suite of security services,” Trustwave chairman and chief executive officer Robert J. McCullen said in a statement. “Malware that circumvents traditional security measures or results from insider abuse of network access is stopped with Mirage Networks’ patented NAC technology. More and more we are seeing a need for NAC among our customers and we’re excited to offer this solution to our customers.”
Mirage Networks’ NAC technology controls access to a network through the use of policies, including pre-admission endpoint security policy checks and post-admission controls that govern where users and devices can travel on a network and the functions they are able to perform.
Mirage Networks’ NAC technology can quickly detect and isolate an unauthorized device or policy violation, including zero-day attacks, without disrupting the network and its other end-points and provide self-remediation capabilities. It requires no agent software, deploys virtually inline and works in any network environment.
Paul Roberts, a 451 Group enterprise security senior analyst, said managed security services are becoming increasingly popular as enterprises look to outsourcing to reduce costs. “Managed NAC is the next stage in this evolution, offering enterprises ease of deployment and predictable costs,” Roberts said in a statement. “Mirage was one of the first companies to realize this. The combination of Trustwave’s managed services platform with Mirage’s expertise in managed NAC deployments and post admission security screening puts Trustwave at the forefront of MSSPs offering managed NAC, and make it a formidable competitor in what promises to be a hotly contested space.”
Former Mirage Networks president and CEO Greg Stock, who will become Trustwave security services general manager, said his employees and himself have built Mirage Networks into the top NAC provider. “By becoming part of Trustwave – a global data security and compliance leader – we will be able to offer our NAC solutions as part of one of the most recognized trust brands on the market,” Stock said in a statement.
