January 12, 2005 -- (WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) -- According to a report released Tuesday by Internet performance monitoring firm Netcraft (netcraft.com) a flood of traffic slowed the performance of Apple's Web site yesterday following the release of the company's new Mac Mini and iPod Shuffle products at the MacWorld Expo conference in San Francisco.

Netcraft reported that the Apple Web site, operating on Mac OS X, slowed somewhat, but was mostly available. The company's online store, which also runs OS X, suffered some more serious slowdowns, some outages and long response times. The official MacWorld Expo site, which runs on Windows Server 2003, was hit even worse, suffering an outage of several hours following Apple CEO Steve Jobs's keynote address.

The spike in traffic came after the release of two highly anticipated new products from Apple. The Mac Mini is a tiny computer, 6.5 inches high and 2 inches wide, priced at $499. The iPod Shuffle is a stripped-down version of Apple's popular iPod music device, priced at $99.

Netcraft says it is providing dynamically updating performance charts for the www.apple.com, store.apple.com and www.macworldexpo.com sites.
