(WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — In its commitment to the IP and Ethernet wholesale market, global carrier Tinet (www.tinet.net) has added a new terrestrial route to its backbone between Hong Kong and Europe.
According to Tinet’s Thursday announcement, the new low latency route runs over the Transit Europe-Asia cable system, extending over a terrestrial path from Stockholm, Sweden, across Russia and China, and into Hong Kong.
“Tinet’s acquisition of the capacity on the TEA systems adds further value, both in terms of increased network diversity and improved latency for our IP Transit and Ethernet customers, particularly those who run time-sensitive applications,” Tinet chief executive officer Paolo Susnik said in a statement. “The route is indicative of Tinet’s continued focus on the needs of our wholesale customers who engage in carrier solutions to the financial trading markets, VoIP and other time sensitive applications.”
Formerly the carrier arm of Tiscali Group, Tinet has network presence and customers in EMEA, Americas and APAC, and provides global IP transit and Ethernet connectivity to service and content providers, and carriers — within seven working days. It also guarantees customers proactive management of service level agreements and protection from dDoS attacks.
Also on Thursday, Tinet became one of the 10 charter members of the Ethernet eXchange Charter Customer Program from tandem interconnection services provider Neutral Tandem (www.neutraltandem.com). The other participating strategic service providers include RCN Metro Optical Networks, a division of RCN Corporation, PAETEC, Deltacom, US Signal, Mosaic NetworX, Wilshire Connection, and ION Holding Co.
Neutral Tandem’s Ethernet eXchange gives Ethernet service providers a more efficient and simplified method of interconnecting on a one-to-many basis. Using Neutral Tandem’s Ethernet eXchange service solves the complex technical and business challenges traditionally tied to interconnecting to multiple service providers on a one-on-one basis. Additionally, Ethernet service providers can virtually connect to multiple access providers in several markets, through a single connection to the Ethernet eXchange.
“Tinet is honored to be part of Neutral Tandem’s Ethernet eXchange,” Susnik stated. “Neutral Tandem’s efficient one-on-to-many interconnections will help us further extend our network into more US markets; this is a true value-add to the global carrier community and ultimately the end-users.”
Since its inception in 2002, Tinet has grown to become one of the top 10 global IPv4 backbones and the number one IPv6 network worldwide
