February 20, 2003 — (WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — Research and consulting firm Tier 1 Research (Tier1Research.com) announced on Thursday that has released two new quarterly reports, separately covering the large and small enterprise markets for Internet infrastructure software and services.

According to Tier 1, the in-depth reports describe key emerging trends, preview expected future events and deliver substantial details on historic and forecasted company-by-company revenues for colocation, Web hosting and managed infrastructure services. Trends identified in the 56-page “PreReview1Q03/4Q02 Complex Infrastructure” report include: further stratification of the Web hosting marketplace; data center automation solutions moving past a market education phase; emergence of new hosting firms through the purchase of distressed assets; and the rising adoption of Linux in data center deployments. In the report, Tier 1 predicts growth of 14 percent in 2003, bringing the industry to $7.56 billion in revenue.

Trends highlighted in the 40-page “PreReview 1Q03/4Q02 Mass Market Hosting” include: major companies moving aggressively, possibly making acquisitions; phenomenal growth and new competition in the sub-$100 per month dedicated hosting market; and the launch of brick-and-mortar sales strategies from hosting vendors. The report also includes collaborative data and insights from Tier 1′s work with Netcraft. In the report, Tier 1 forecasts 12 percent growth in mass-market hosting services, to $3.8 billion in 2003.
