Three Web Hosts Top Netcraft Ranking
September 12, 2006 — (WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — Web hosting providers 1&1 Internet (1and1.com), Rackspace (rackspace.com) and New York Internet (nyi.net) ended in a three-way tie as the most reliable Web hosting company sites for August 2006, according to Web analytics firm Netcraft (netcraft.com). The home pages for all three providers were perfect for the month, experiencing no downtime and no failed requests.
This month’s leader board shows that hosting customers can find good network connectivity at either end of the hosting spectrum. 1&1 is one of most affordable providers, and New York Internet and Rackspace are higher-priced managed hosting specialists.
This marks the fourth time this year that Rackspace has been ranked most reliable host, while NYI has topped the list or tied for first on three occasions. 1&1, which hosts more than 3 million active sites, previously led the rankings in May 2005. Seven of the 10 most reliable Web hosts, says Netcraft, run their sites on Linux, while two use FreeBSD, and one Windows Server 2003.
Netcraft measures and makes available the response times of fifty leading hosting providers’ sites. The performance measurements are made at 15-minute intervals from separate points around the Internet, and averages are calculated over the immediately preceding 24 hour period.
