September 9, 2004 — (WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — Telecommunications carrier Sprint (sprint.com) is supplying gigabit ethernet services for Web hosting provider The Planet Internet Services (theplanet.com), the companies announced on Thursday. Under the three-year agreement, Sprint will provide The Planet with five gigabit ethernet network connections to Sprint’s IP network, increasing the speed of The Planet’s Internet connections.

“Sprint’s network is performing at up to 20 percent greater capacity than some of our existing connections, and that directly translates into better service for our customers and better performance for our business,” says Lance Crosby, chief operating officer of the The Planet. “The Planet is one of a very few companies in this industry sector that can boast being profitable, and our agreement with Sprint is delivering the kind of results that will contribute to our continued economic success and customer satisfaction.”

The new service will be used to connect customers to The Planet’s data center facilities in Dallas, Texas.
