The Planet Opens Eighth US Data Center

(WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — Dedicated managed hosting provider The Planet (www.theplanet.com) announced on Thursday it will host a ribbon-cutting event next Tuesday at its newly constructed data center in the north Dallas suburb of Plano, Texas.

The announcement follows last month’s opening of The Planet’s first international data center in London, UK, which provides tenants with geographic redundancy, enhanced performance and Gigabit connectivity.

Scheduled for 11 a.m. on June 16, the event will include remarks from The Planet chairman and CEO Douglas J. Erwin and Plano City manager Thomas H. Muehlenbeck.

The ceremony will also include tours of the 106,000-square-foot, environmentally friendly facility.

The data center — the company’s eighth in the United Strates — brings The Planet’s total data center raised-floor footprint to 224,000 square feet.

It will use the latest modular cooling technology from Turbine Air Systems, with high-efficiency, water-cooled chillers that eliminate the possibility of an interior water leak.

The Planet will offer a range of services from the data center, including colocation, private racks, and Northstar Managed Hosting services.

There is also space available for a Business Continuity Center, which provides office space for customers that need a disaster recovery base of operations during an outage.

“We’ve received substantial interest in our new highly efficient facilities from customers looking to expand their IT infrastructure capabilities,” says Jeff Lowenberg, The Planet vice president of facilities. “This new space enables us to accommodate the rapid colocation market growth we’ve seen in the Dallas area, and we invite customers, prospects and partners to celebrate another significant step forward in The Planet’s expansion.”
