Red Hat Enterprise Linux 4 was released in mid-February. The latest version of RHEL, Red Hat says, was designed with a focus on Linux kernel 2.6-based platform stability and maturity, productivity improvements, technology to meet security and compliance demands, and performance and stability for 32-bit and 64-bit workloads.

Shelton says that customers who want to migrate from older versions of RHEL will receive fresh installations, rather than upgrades of existing software.
