(WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — IT hosting provider The Planet (www.theplanet.com) and Dell (www.dell.com) have announced a joint donation of 23 new laptop computers, monitors and docking stations, worth more than $25,000, to the Houston Technology Center (www.houstontech.org), a nonprofit incubator for local emerging technology companies.
“HTC performs a tremendous service for our community by fostering young companies and supporting their early-stage operations,” The Planet chairman and chief executive officer Douglas J Erwin said in a statement. “Houston is a pro-business city, and HTC works to build the city’s reputation as a good environment for building new technology companies.”
With operations in both Dallas and Houston, The Planet’s contribution to HTC is the latest to help its local communities. Last week, The Planet participated in the American Heart Association’s Walking Day to help build awareness around living an active and heart-healthy life both at home and in the workplace.
Since its inception in 1999, HTC has raised nearly $750 million for client companies, helping hundreds of local emerging technology companies. HTC is currently working with around 70 client companies in a variety of fields including energy, life sciences, information technology, nanotechnology and aerospace.
Dell large enterprise division vice president and general manager Donna Troy said organizations HTC play a key role in the business community, and Houston has one of the most appealing business communities in the US. “By joining forces with The Planet, we’re able to support the HTC’s vision of Houston as an important technology market,” Troy said in a statement.
The HTC provides a broad range of resources for entrepreneurs such as HTC University, which meets quarterly, helping provide startups the necessary tools to write and develop their business plans. It also gives these companies access to industry executives, networking opportunities and seminars, giving them knowledge to help their businesses.
