Terremark Wins VMware Partner Award

(WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — Data center operator Terremark (www.terremark.com) announced on Tuesday that it was named virtualization software provider VMware’s (www.vmware.com) Service Provider of the Year, during that company’s VMware Partner Exchange 2009.

The Partner Exchange (www.vmware.com/partners/) event took place earlier this month in Orlando, Florida, and was an event designed specifically around the company’s partners.

According to Terremark’s announcement, the award was based on the company’s product offerings, as well as its successful cooperative relationship with VMware.

Terremark says it has joined in VMware’s vCloud initiative – through which VMware is combining the capabilities of its recently launched vSphere 4 software with the infrastructure of certain partners – helping to “provide leading-edge utility and cloud computing services to the enterprise and federal markets.” Customers deploying the solutions at this point include the US General Services Administration, Preferred Hotels Group and Agora Games.

Last week, Hosting.com announced that its CloudNine product would be offering free trials through the vCloud initiative.

The project, the event, the awards and VMware’s entire partner process is interesting in part because the relationship with service providers is a more recent development for VMware, which not so long ago was much more focused on virtualization within enterprise data centers.

“We are happy to recognize the great work that Terremark has done throughout the year in growing their virtualization practice, and this is our time to show our appreciation for all that they do,” says Doug Smith, senior director of global channels for VMware, quoted in the Terremark announcement. “Terremark has demonstrated excellence in the past year in providing VMware virtualization solutions to customers of all sizes, and we look forward to their continued success in bringing customers the benefits of VMware vSphere 4.”

Terremark says VMware’s cloud computing operating system is integral to its Enterprise Cloud product, which provides enterprises with a managed platform for applications and infrastructure. The company’s Infinistructure platform combines VMware’s virtualization software and Terremark’s proprietary service management tools.

The company extended the Enterprise Cloud into Europe in February of this year.
