(WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — Managed IT infrastructure services provider Terremark Worldwide (www.terremark.com) has expanded the carrier connectivity at its NAP of the Capital Region (known as NCR) with the addition of nine carrier networks, allowing Terremark to offer access to a total of 15 leading carrier networks.
According to Terremark’s Monday announcement, the added carriers increase NCR’s potential to attract various additional networks because of its access to massive carrier connectivity. Optical transport network solutions provider FiberLight (www.fiberlight.com) was the latest to complete building its optical network into Terremark’s NCR campus.
“The completion of our optical network into Terremark’s NAP of the Capital Region represents a significant, mutually beneficial step for both companies,” FiberLight founder and chief executive officer Michael P. Miller said in a statement. “Connecting the NCR to Northern Virginia, allows us to extend our footprint while providing Terremark’s customers the benefits of FiberLight’s robust core metro network and our 24/7 network monitoring capabilities to proactively address any issues.”
Located 60 miles from Washington, D.C. in Culpeper, VA, NCR opened in June 2008 with the completion of the first 50,000-square-foot data center on a 30-acre campus designed to accommodate up to five independent data center buildings. Terremark started construction on a second data center in January. One of the most secure and technologically sophisticated data center campuses in the US, the Culpeper campus’ robust infrastructure provides a full suite of industry-leading IT infrastructure solutions that support government agencies and enterprises’ mission-critical applications.
“The NAP of the Capital Region has experienced outstanding success, and we believe the additional connectivity offered at the facility will generate increased interest in the full suite of services Terremark offers there,” Terremark chairman and CEO Manuel D. Medina said in a statement. “Our proven ability to consistently attract customers to our global footprint of highly connected data centers was a key factor in FiberLight’s decision to build its network in the NCR, and we are excited to continue our strong relationship with this important partner.”
