June 4, 2008 — (WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — Data center operator and hosting provider Terremark Worldwide (terremark.com) announced on Wednesday it is offering enterprise cloud computing with a new managed platform for mission-critical applications and infrastructure.

The Enterprise Cloud (theenterprisecloud.com) is powered by an enhanced version of Terremark’s Infinistructure utility computing platform and uses the company’s top-tier data centers and access to massive and diverse network connectivity, says the company.

For the first time, Terremark’s Enterprise Cloud customers will have complete control and flexibility over enterprise-class, Internet-optimized computing infrastructure. The cloud computing solution will enable customers to deploy fully configured production servers in minutes, significantly reducing implementation times typically measured in weeks.

“Terremark’s Enterprise Cloud clients buy a dedicated resource pool of processing, memory, storage and networking, from which they can deploy servers on demand,” said Randy Rowland, senior VP of product development for Terremark. “This ‘Gigahertz and Gigabytes’ model gives customers more flexibility and agility over the traditional server-based model, allowing for a precise and dynamic allocation of computing resources as needed.”

The functioning core of Terremark’s Enterprise Cloud is the company’s new Infinicenter web portal. This software enables customers to dynamically provision servers from a pre-allocated pool of dedicated computing resources. Servers can be configured and provisioned in minutes, grouped and organized according to role, and dynamically extended according to utilization.

A range of preconfigured server roles are available across various operating systems, including Microsoft Windows, Linux and Sun Solaris. Plug-and-play bandwidth on demand is available from more than 160 global carriers. Infinicenter also provides a full reporting interface that enables users to monitor resource utilization and application performance.

Several companies have released their own hosting cloud solutions in recent months. In February, Rackspace venture company Mosso released the new version of The Hosting Cloud. Then in April, 3Tera debuted its Cloudware architecture offering which gives access to hosted computing power based on the company’s AppLogic grid hosting operating system.

Designed from the ground up, Terremark’s Enterprise Cloud is built to meet the needs of enterprises and their mission-critical applications. Its underlying server and storage infrastructure includes best-in-class strategic partners including HP, IBM, Cisco, VMWare and 3Par.

The solution’s infrastructure is PCI compliant and meets strict standards including SAS 70 Type II and HIPAA. It is also supported by industry-leading data security technologies and secure information services experts, says Terremark.

Terremark’s Enterprise Cloud offers redundant design at each layer of the platform enables the company to offer service level agreements at the levels required by enterprise clients.

The company says it will roll out the complete suite of Terremark’s managed services, including platform, application management, security and disaster recovery services in The Enterprise Cloud over the coming months.

In April, street-level imaging provider Blue Dasher Technologies selected Terremark to host its database of high-density geo-coded images of public streets of major metropolitan areas in North America.
