Teraco Hosts Event to Drive Growth to South Africa

(WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — South African colocation provider Teraco Data Environments (www.teraco.co.za) announced it hosted an event on Wednesday for senior UK executives operating in the telecommunications and IT business, held at the Home House Club in London, UK.

The event focused on the significant changes in South Africa’s telecommunications market over the last year, which created new opportunities for global companies.

Over 60 global carriers, global multinationals and ICT companies attended the event.

Featuring representatives of Teraco, Seacom and T-Systems, the event’s presentations discussed the growth of network players in South Africa since the High Court ruling last year, which allowed all electronic communications network service licensees to build networks.

In August 2006, the South African government finally allowed otherr players to enter the market, while further deregulation was introduced in 2008 following a lawsuit against the telecom regulatory agency.

According to Teraco, this emergence of carrier choices in South Africa, as well as the rollout of high-speed fibre links within the country and new undersea cables are drawing many out-of-country companies to invest or to place operating units.

“This event affirmed European interest in the South African economy and ICT industry,” says Tim Parsonson, group chief executive of Teraco. “We hosted this event to bring together UK-based executives that are looking for new options for their own growth with new partners that can provide better, more cost effective services. The market is changing fast and companies need to keep options open. As the only neutral colocation provider in SA, Teraco looks forward to continue growing its footprint in the data center space as international businesses realise the benefits of colocating their data centers in South Africa’s competitive new telecoms space.”

The company recently added physical network provider Dark Fibre Africa to its Johannesburg data center, bringing the total number of carriers available at Teraco facilities to six.
