Telx Expands Data Center Footprint in Phoenix

(WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — Colocation provider and data center operator Telx (www.telx.com) announced on Thursday that it has expanded its data center footprint in Phoenix, adding to the capacity at its facility at 120 East Van Buren Street by more than 50 percent.

According to the release, the high-density space has been available since September 1, 2009. And more than 33 percent of the new space has already been sold.

The 120 East Van Buren Street data center is a significant property for the company, which operates the Telx Internet Exchange out of the facility, as well as from its Atlanta data center. A detailed information page on the Phoenix data center is available at the Telx website.

The need for expansion and the speed which with the new space is selling out both highlight the current demand for data center space in Phoenix. Earlier today, the WHIR reported that hosting provider Cordera had finalized the location and specifications for a new facility it expects to open in Phoenix in November.

Earlier this week, at the Tier 1 Research Hosting Transformation Summit in Las Vegas, several presentations by data center builders, operators and financiers reported that data center capacity is currently being outpaced by demand, with no immediate end in sight.

Telx says the high-density new segment of its Phoenix facility will provide an ideal location for enterprise customers, as well as for software as a service and cloud-based applications.

“As cloud computing, software-as-a-service, and low latency networking continue to provide businesses worldwide with the competitive advantages necessary to succeed in the global marketplace, Telx remains committed to serving customers in key markets like Phoenix with the best colocation and interconnection options available,” said Telx CEO Eric Shepcaro, quoted in the company’s press release. “To that end, we continue to add space as demand dictates in order to effectively help customers grow their businesses and take advantage of the newest, market-leading technologies.
