Telx Deploys Ciena Connection Tools

May 30, 2008 — (WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — In today’s second instance of a company issuing news about its work with Telx (telx.com), networking specialist Ciena (ciena.com) reported this week that the data center operator had deployed Ciena’s CN 4200 FlexSelect Advanced Series Platform in its Dallas and New York metro markets.

The equipment, according to Ciena, is being used as part of Telx’s Metro Cross Connect service, which enables interconnection between multiple ColoXchange facilities within a city.

The Metro Cross Connect service will provide a given customer with access to all the carriers colocated with Telx within the metro area of a single deployment. For example, the more-than-60 network providers currently colocated at the Telx facility at 2323 Bryan Street in Dallas can be reached from by companies colocated at 8435 Stemmons Freeway. Likewise with the company’s 60 Hudson Street and 111 8th Avenue facilities in New York City.

In both cases, Ciena says Telx deployed its solution for its sub-wavelength grooming capability, which, in the words of the Ciena announcement, “enables Telx to ‘right-size’ capacity while supporting multiple services on a single wavelength with a basic, scalable and cost-effective configuration.”

Ciena says its CN 4200 platform eliminates uncertainty from network planning. It is designed specifically to deliver and manage badwidth-intensive applications across metro and regional distances.

According to the information page on the Cienna website, the CN 4200 platform is delivered in three different hardware chassis configurations.

“Ciena not only satisfied our entrance criteria, they also allowed us the maximum flexibility for the products and services we will be delivering to our customers,” says Michael Terlizzi, executive vice president of operations and engineering at Telx, in the Ciena announcement. “We are quite pleased with our Ciena selection.”

Earlier on Friday we reported that PeerExchange’s private peering network would be accessible via the Telx colocation facility at 60 Hudson Street.
