Telx Adds Data Center Space in Downtown Atlanta

(WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — Interconnection and colocation data center operator Telx  (www.telx.com) announced this week that it has added 20,000 square feet of new data center space to its building at 56 Marietta Street in Atlanta, providing a higher power density within the new area.

The new space, which the press release describes as “re-configured” is SAS 70 certified, and designed to support 200 watts per square foot of IT load. The company says it will meet or exceed the Uptime Institute’s Tier III data center rating.

Telx says the space will cater to the media and entertainment, education and research and healthcare verticals.

The new space is an upgrade for the company’s 56 Marietta St. facility, which Telx describes as having long been recognized as one of the most densely interconnected facilities in the Southeastern United States.

Much of the content of the announcement focuses on the facility’s ability to meet the power density needs of potential customers – power supply having emerged over the last few years as one of the key determining factors of a data center’s capacity, with limited power availability stifling data center growth in certain crowded markets recently.

“56 Marietta Street’s roots are that of the pre-eminent carrier hotel in the Southeast and have long served the wide variety of prominent enterprise companies that call Atlanta home,” says Michael Terlizzi, executive vice president of operations for Telx, quoted in the press release. “The transition of this space from low-density, high-interconnection to high-density, high-interconnection adds tremendous value to our customers and is unparalleled in the colocation and interconnection marketplaces.”

Telx says the new space adds capacity not just for enterprise customers, but for the service providers who operate within the carrier facility. The announcement includes a comment from Matt Elkourie, CTO of hosting provider Colocube (www.colocube.com), who says the added density will help the company to meet its own customers’ future technology needs.

More information on the 56 Marietta facility, including a downloadable PDF fact sheet, is available from the facility’s section on the Telx website.
